About directories

Hi John,

Can please tell me how you create a new directory on Viatasso wiki? I have been lately very interested in hierarchies on wiki and to my knowledge, yours is the only wiki where the user can create sub-directories.

Also is there a way to have a listing of all directories?

A problem I see: when you create a page, it says "Click on Edit and start writing". If we haven't logged in, we cannot see the Edit this page tag but we can see a log-in tag.

Perhaps you should add: - if you haven't logged in, click on log-in and follow the procedures, re-create the new page and click on Edit this page.

Thanks!

To create a directory, fill in the URL directory box. See how I did it for this page, for example.

Easy enough! Well done! Very clever! You'll make it in life because you see things differently, you have your own vision and you implement things your own way. What is the saying? You walk out of the beaten path. Just like me. — ar

Also, this site isn't silly like other wikis; you should use your name like Robert Abitbol?, not RobertAbitbol. Please be kind—I noted this specifically on the log in page!

True! And how about the list of sub-directories, Maestro. Where can we find it? — ar

Try the index.

I did. Excellent system I must admit! I am really impressed by your directory system! How about putting the Index on the menu?

Also can I make a suggestion? Is it possible to put the directory name on top of each title? Patrick Michaud does it in his PM Wiki. See http://pmwiki.com. Note he has sections but not directories. You are 100% right to go along with the directories concept everyone is familiar with.

I thought about this but decided against this. First, there's no room for it at the top. Second, I'm using the directories to organize pages only, not to describe their contents. So the page title should stand alone without the directory name.

And this is a very special suggestion. When you'll put the Index on the menu, can you also put a function: Index on left window. When the user will press on this button there will be a split screen. The index will show on the left and an empty screen on the right. When we'll click on a page it will open on the right screen. What do you think? — Robert Abitbol?

It's a good idea for sure, and I would do it except that it would require a lot of work, and I'm not really interested in working on this site any more except for simple improvements. The site's not perfect by a long shot, but it's good enough, and usable.

OK but if you're interested I have some code for a split screen written in JavaScript you could use. Too bad you stopped working on this site it was getting pretty darn good...

By the way, use your preview button! '' doesn't do italics here. :-)
